Produced under the Bar Harbor brand are three all-natural soups utilizing MCS certified, sustainable fish; Fish Chowder, made with MSC Alaskan Pollock, and Salmon Chowder and Salmon Bisque, both made with MSC Alaskan Salmon.
Previously, our fish soups were made with local North Atlantic fish, but when we learned that these fisheries were at risk for over-fishing with the potential for endangering the sustainability of the species, we made the decision to support the principles of the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC); to be a part of maintaining the health and sustainability of global fisheries.
Through a process of certifying our production facility to MSC guidelines and by garnering the support of local fish and seafood suppliers in Maine, Bar Harbor Foods, a division of Look's Gourmet Foods, is now one of the U.S. suppliers of MSC certified value-added products. The products are easily identified by the blue fish logo (shown in the image above) printed on the product labels.
